Local Creative Entrepreneurs
Here are a few of the local creative enterprises whose practise could scale and flourish with access to shared creative work space.

Anthony Smith
Woodworker
anthonysmithwood.co.uk
I make handmade furniture, fine wooden objects and weird projects for the home and local businesses. I'm limited to doing small stuff by the size of my shed. With access to shared space I could make bigger things, and I'd love to be able to teach people woodworking skills.

I'm really missing the inspiration that comes from working around other artists. A shared woodworking space would bring together the town's amazing craftspeople, and it would be exciting for visitors to see these crafts alive and happening.

Hannah Heys
Textile Artist
hannahheys.com
I am Hannah a multidisciplinary Artist & Designer. My work combines my passion for contemporary design with detailed craftsmanship, using both Textiles and Ceramics to create bold and colourful hand-crafted homewares.
Each piece has its own personality, from the contrasting linings in my cushions, to the hand carved designs and flowing forms of my ceramic pieces.

The development of an affordable arts/creative/enterprise space locally would allow me to take on larger commissions, larger orders and showcase my work to a wider audience with a space to host potential clients. Not only would development of an affordable arts/creative/enterprise space allow me to expand my Creative business, but it would foster collaborative potential between myself and other Creatives by creating a community hub of likeminded individuals.

Esther North
Traditional Sign Writer
I’m a signwriter and artist living and working in Leighton Buzzard. I use traditional signwriting and gilding techniques in my work. Whether commercial work or privately commissioned art pieces, craft and heritage is at the centre of my practice.
Access to a communal arts space within the town would transform my work and business. It would allow me to make larger scale pieces and to expand my retail business. I would love to do more to pass on the craft to new generations of signwriters, and with more space I would be able to deliver more workshops and take on an apprentice.

Ben Ashton
Fine Artist
benashtonart.com
I am a fine portrait artist working in a classical Old Master / pop surrealist style. I grew up in Wingrave and even put on my first exhibition in Leighton Buzzard town square - I did my MA at The Slade in London, where I lived for the last 15 years, eventually returning to Leighton Buzzard with my wife and son in 2022.

Having accessible and spacious creative space is absolutely critical to my practise, so that I am able to create larger works, and more of them at the same time. Currently I am working from The Old Ironworks and being so central to town means I can be a working artist and still do the school run, and connect with other local craftspeople whose practises intersect with my own.

Fiona Garden
Photographer
fionagarden.com
I work mainly in the music industry, shooting album artwork and press photography - I have collaborated with some of the most exciting and iconic artists and labels, from Young Fathers to Rag'N'Bone Man to Bullet For My Valentine, and regularly contribute covers for NME Magazine.

Finding suitable space to work in is easily one of the biggest challenges around being a working creative - Leighton Buzzard has such a vibrant creative community, if there were space to expand and connect all of these creative businesses it would have a massive impact on the town both culturally as well as on an economic development level.

Rachael Presky
Muralist & Illustrator
I’m Rachael, a Commercial Artist and Illustrator. My work aims to give everyone representation and a voice within the causes I am passionate about, from disability to women in sport.
I work with clients to create pieces for advertising and packaging, large scale murals and editorial. My clients include Adidas, Adobe, Vans and many more. You can see a mural of mine in the Adidas flagship store on Oxford Street!
Through working on murals, I’ve discovered that working at scale gives my work impact so I would really love to create large scale artworks to develop a fine art aspect to my work but I currently don’t have the space to house and paint such large pieces. Having access to an affordable studio space would give me that opportunity. I’d also love to be able to collaborate with fellow local makers and continue to foster a creative community.

As a festival we:
Bring together local creatives and filmmakers to inspire future collaborations.
Create a space to showcase work made by local people to the community where they live.
Encourage anyone to get involved with making a film and visual storytelling by making skill learning accessible.
Build a hub for filmmakers and industry professionals across Herts, Beds, Bucks.

Natalia Latyszonek
Set Builder & Prop Maker
I have worked in the set and scenic industry for over 15 years. I have built award-winning window displays for Harvey Nichols, headed up the art department on Secret Cinema immersive theatre shows, and had the opportunity to build many more wonderful things across retail, stage and screen.
Most of my work is in London where I lived for 13 years - from my university days at Central St Martins to 2020 when I moved back to Beds.
I grew up just outside of Wing and one of my first jobs was working in my aunt’s art shop on the High Street in Leighton Buzzard.

Communal arts space within the town would be invaluable to make connections with other artists, to create larger projects and to build a truly vibrant artistic hub.

Richard Puncheon
Photographer
Absolutely love getting creative at weddings, but these are limited by time, quite often I will be doing personal creative shoots, to learn and develop my skill set, which then will always cross over into my wedding work.

Would be good to have another space for projects in the town since the last studio shut down.
